So this Saturday, Kendra Fashion House showcased their winter-spring collection in an event dubbed ON THE RUNWAY.
It was amazing and I cannot wait for her next fashion show. To be honest the show couldn’t have been any better. The introduction was captivating!! Everything really, they had perfected everything. The models were walking in sync with the music. And one word to describe the models? FIERCE!!!!!! :0
My friend Tracy and I were on the red carpet giving interviews to the guests. So much fun. I got to talk to different people. Sarah Hassan was really nice and she actually spared the time to talk to us. We went on about hair and make up. Another interesting cookie was Muthoni The Drummer Queen. She looks better in person, let the pictures not lie to you. I L-O-V-E her hair. Not many can pull off the whole bald mohawk hairdo. And who knew she actually plays the drums…lol. I had so much fun.
So here are some pictures of the event.

The title? Yes getting to that. My blog has been revamped as you can see. A header and the background; basically everything has changed including me!! So yes my blog went through an episode of Plain Jane and came out looking like this. Thanks to my dear friend Mbithe Nzomo, check out her blog here ———-> Twenty Something Life
You’re probably wondering, and me? how have I changed? Well, I can say alot about me has changed but the main thing is that I ditched my natural sisters and went main stream…..so I now have permed hair. Umm yes at first I regretted it but you know I have to make the best out of it. Sigh* I have a friend who is not talking to me since I permed my hair. We were both natural sisters and now…….ahh no worries she’ll forgive me sooner than later. Change is good.
My old header and background
SHORT HAIR:
This is when I actually cut my hair….was really excited!
Rugged look:
Bantu knots:
Afro disiac:
Braided hair:
Now:
That was just a snippet of my hair journey.
Last Saturday, my friend Nicole alias Kendra of Kendra Fashion house had her fashion show at the Michael Joseph Centre. It was amazeballs!! I don’t have my camera with me but I have a video of the show and I’ll share it once I get my camera back.
Heey, long time it has been. The last time I started a statement with the message instead of the prepositions and pronouns, my brother was like you sound like Master Yoda. I was like who the hell is that??? O.o Some starwars guy. Lemme not bore you with the details. But apparently aliens never used to like wasting time in stating what they want to say they’d always start with the message. So my brother and I came up with a case scenario, difference between a dying alien and a dying human.
Alien: (dying alien….last words) “Go back to earth………(alien dies)….here the alien friend gets the message.
Human: (dying human….last words) “You must………..(human dies)……..here human friend gets prepositions and pronouns.
Back to clothes , shoes and reality. So this was yesterday…. Was on my way to visit my sister in school, yes, yes she’s in boarding school. I was in a dressy mood but it was cold so I wanted to throw something on top. I’m a crazy leopard print fan
What else have I been up to? A question that must have been lingering on your minds. Well, I’ll tell you what I’m up to currently. I teach little kids. Yes I am temporarily a teacher of children. Why? Well, It’s community service. Court Order? Nooo, it goes into my grades. It has so much fun, I’m enjoying myself and learning new things. Like I might come out of there having the basics in Piano. I already know how to play the happy birthday tune. What else? I’m learning how to play Mary had a little lamb on the recorder. Sigh* Makes me think I should have like a bucket list or something.
Sometimes do you feel like you need to a distraction from everything that’s happening? Well, I do. What i do, I put on my music and come here and start writing…
Sooooo….I got something new….tralala…..am I the only one who gets excited over new stuff? Jump up and down? Have a crazy daydream about whatever new thing you’ve acquired? Nope? It’s just me?…okay fine, I guess that’s just me
Now you’re probably wondering what it is! New Clothes? Nope. New shoes? I wish. A new bag? Nah. Ok fine, fine let’s cut to the chase! I got an eyelash curler. That’s it? Well, yeah I mean, IT IS AN EYELASH CURLER! I saw it and I had to rub my eyes. I normally see it on telly. Like I said before, I see stuff on TV and I’m like I want that!
So I was actually going for a check up cause I’ve been a bit sick lately so I was going round the chemist to check out the cool stuff that look so appealing from the window. I was so astonished. The first thing that came to my mind was “OHHMY THEY’RE IN KENYA!!!!”
Ok enough about my excitement, when I got home of course the first thing to do is to try this eyelash curler. I use it and let’s just say my excitement was over -_-
I was expecting my eyelashes to look like Kim Kardashian’s (there’s a craze about her eyelashes that I don’t really get). So I came to the conclusion that they only work with people with fake eyelashes and I’m not really into the whole fake eyelash thing cause I heard about the EXCRUCIATING pain when removing them. No way I’m getting outta my comfort zone cause some eyelash extensions. In short what I thought is that they could have had a sign at the back of the pack written: BUY THIS AT YOUR OWN PERIL, THEY WILL LOOK NORMAL, ALL NATUREL! NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER!
Don’t leave yet, my story is ending. So I ended up googling how to use an eyelash curler. Well *ehem* *cough* , you are apparently supposed to put Mascara on first. Oops….how embarrassing….Thank God for Google for those of us that are clueless **THE END**
For those who don’t know, an eyelash curler looks like this: (BEWARE, IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING THAT CAN BE USED IN AN OPERATING ROOM)
Merry Christmas everyone Hope you had a lovely time with your family and all. I had a good time at home. You know the old school barbeque with the fam. I made chocolate covered strawberries *excited*. I’m one of those people who sees something in the movies and I’m like I want that. So yes, I made chocolate covered strawberries and as soon as I removed them from the fridge they were over. That means they were good, right? *pats self on the back*
Christmas decorations
I love strawberries and I LOVE chocolate. So I figured strawberries+chocolate= Heaven
On 26th we just went out for a family lunch/dinner. Loved the ambiance. Loved the food!
Why Lime Green? Well, that’s my favorite color. Has been for a while. So I decided all go green.
To the crazy poses
My siblings…….Tongue out :p
My lovely parents
Christmas Nail Art. I did it myself btw. Green + Red= Christmas
That awkward moment when you don’t know what name to give to your blog post o.O Why blueberry icecream, you may ask? Well I so happened to be eating blueberry icecream as I write this post #therandomstuffido
Today is when I actually felt the Christmas cheer. Shopping for Christmas is what made me get into that spirit. Otherwise having closed school recently really didn’t feel Christmasy. Plus this year we’re home bound so there was no excitement really. We’ve just put up the tree so Hello Christmas for me. But the holiday is basically about Family whether you’re staying home, going out of town {Coast (sniff* sniff)} or going to your motherland.
I really like these pants, they are leather like….when you look at them they look like leather pants but they aren’t! How amazing! It’s so rock chic! It reminds me of the good old rocking days….you know, when I was a kid with my toy guitar and all….
Have you noticed how I’ve diversified in the places I’m taking my pictures? No? Didn’t notice? Oh okay, never mind
It took me centuries to get this nail polish, I know, I know…….I was doing my hair so I thought I’d do a manicure as well, so I decided I’ll go with the shatter nail polish. IT TURNED OUT GREAT See for yourself.
To be honest, ever since I put it I’ve been interested to know more about it. A piece of advice, use OPI nail polish. The rest crack really badly leaving you regretting putting it on.
I’m a nail polish lover. At the beginning of the year I used to put a different color every week but somewhere along the way I got bored of changing it. New year resolution? I’ll increase my stock of nail polish to say 60. I’m not saying that I’ll change my nail polish every week, just increase my stock.
So after hearing so much about Big Square, I really wanted to try their food. So I just so happened to like their Facebook page and one day as I was scrolling down my homepage, they had updated their status saying that they were giving out free meal vouchers if you answered a question. The question was “if you were a fruit what would you be and why?”. So I was like hey, lemme give it a try..it wouldn’t hurt to try.
I gave the most random answer saying how I’d be a pineapple. Hours later, they announced the winners and I was one of them. To be honest, I’ve never won anything. Those competitions that always on radio, I always call but I’ve never won so you could imagine the excitement that I had. At that time I was with my mother and cousin watching the classic Godfather movie. I paused the movie( I always have the remote, it gives me a sense of power) and started jumping around and dancing. Okay not dancing but I was moving my body in random directions. Lol.
So a couple of Saturdays ago, I made my way there. Their food is delish…Mmm…. I didn’t get my free meal cause I didn’t have my I.D (I wonder who’d try and impersonate me hehe) but I will most definitely go for my free meal
Meet Maryanne Senior….Lol..My Mom:)
My favorite soda
See my name there?
Did I mention that their burgers are errm SQUARE? yeah
My phone takes badass photos but I still want a CANON camera
So this month’s Blankets and Wine was really interesting. Although I was really excited about it, I preferred the previous events. First of all the rain made them change the whole set up so basically you could only hear the music if you were inside the main tent….Other than the weather everything else was okay. There were very many people and there was so much hype for the musician Dwele. Personally, I hadn’t heard of him before but he’s reallly good-looking and has a nice voice, reminds me of NeYo
So as I had mentioned earlier, I was gonna wear an LBD but my dress wasn’t delivered on time so I compromised and went with the LCD(Little Cream Dress). I wasn’t so sure about the LCD at first but I have to admit, I totally killed it
I met Sharon of the blog This is Ess. I was really happy to finally meet her and she’s the one who actually took some of the photos below. We ended having a lengthy conversation about Red Velvet Cake which I’m yet to try btw.
And below that’s Dwele, I wish i could’ve gotten a better picture of him though.
So if you’ve never attended any series of Blankets and Wine, I strongly recommend that you rally up your circle of friends and make your way there.
LCD, boots and Satchel- All from Adams (I did a short survey and asked a couple of people how much they thought my dress was….ALL said around Ksh.3000. Whoa! It’s no where near there, if they only knew o.O can’t even say the price, you’d think I’m lying)
So…..How are you this morning? It’s really cold so you can just cuddle on the sofa watching your favorite series mine at the moment being Desperate Housewives (Eva Longoria here I come)
Well, I finally challenged myself and wore those wedges that never left my closet. Truthfully speaking, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The shoes were really heavy but I can comfortably say(pun intended) I walked like I’ve ever worn the shoes before. *pats self on the back* Not too shabby,eh?
So with the shoes I wore a top with a bow and wore a ring with a bow as well….yeah i’m going bow all the way….If I could I would even wear a bow on my hair but it’s just that I left the house in a hurry…
Haha…..I was trying my best not to laugh
I look comfortable with my leg up in the air, don’t I? Well looks do lie! The shoe is sooo heavy!
hahaha goofing around….Tyra poses
Struggling to balance….
Of cute bows
Trying to show off my ring…
I have to say my camera takes pretty good pictures….
That day I went for lunch in Java….cheers to good food
This Sunday is yet another Blankets and Wine event….I went out and got my advance ticket. I normally buy tickets at the gate on that day but since they hiked the prices, I decided to go with the advance ticket.
Am I only one thinking that this Blankets and Wine will be one of the biggest? I bought my ticket from the Dormans in Yaya and my friend followed suite and went to get herself a ticket as well today but when she reached there, the tickets were sold out o.O she had to go buy a ticket from the Dormans at the Junction.
Clearly I’m not the only one excited about it….My dress is being delivered soon,an LBD that blew me away..Nails check….Obviously i’m ready and excited
Today morning I looked over my shoe closet to see what I’ve not worn in a while. That’s when I found these:
I got these shoes on my birthday….I was kinda in a hurry, the store was closing and I had to choose shoes fast…….so I went for these shoes, really pretty and HIGH! I”m kinda into the whole faux snake skin. So what happened after I bought the shoes, I went home and in all the excitement I went to my room to try on the new shoes So right after I put my right shoe on, I get the muscle pull of my life!! I cried in agony before my sister rushed in… So my muscles were sore for the whole week and well, haven’t had the courage to wear them in public yet.
But challenge to myself……..by the end of this week, I’ll have walked a mile(figuratively) in these shoes…..
So how did I find out about Sara Karay? Well, when she was launching her collection at the Hilton earlier this year, everyone was talking about her and all I was asking myself is what is all the fuss about UNTIL I saw her collection :0
She sent it to me a while ago….I also met her in the fashion market where she showcased her collection. So here’s her EARTH collection:
And last but not least, that’s me and Sara Karay during The Nairobi Fashion Market! That’s proof lol Although i was talking when the picture was being taken, don’t mind me
So the long-awaited Nairobi Fashion Market came and it came with lots of stuff to buy…..I attended the one on Saturday…..it was really interesting…I shopped mostly for accessories but they were worth it
I also got to meet Suzie of Suzie Beauty….for those who don’t know her, she was the first to introduce her own make up line in Kenya.
I also got to meet Sara Karay who showcased her collection. Her collection is gorge and I will be posting about it soon. Other Fashion Designers also got to showcase their designs. Beautiful, Beautiful…..
Even though I didn’t get to attend The Swahili Fashion Week which was on the same day, I was happy and I can’t wait for the next nfm. So here are the pictures I got on Saturday:
Below is one of my favorite outfits……..you’d think the front is bare but it’s not ….
This was my favorite shop…..it had everything….jewellery, clothes, bags………
Soo on Saturday 1st of September was my birthday So I really enjoyed the weekend…On Saturday I spent the day with my folks, shopped a little a lot and then went to an Italian restaurant for dinner….. On Sunday morning I cut the cake with the fam but afterwards I was off to Blankets with my friends
So here are the photos for both days:
On Saturday I wore green my favourite colour
I had a fabulous time
Print dress for blankets and polka dot green dress – Both from Yaya Centre (a shop on first floor)
Its been so long since I updated my blog…..I’m sorry but I’m here to stay no more going MIA.
So this was taken couple weeks ago, like a month ago really. My hair is totally different now. I moved from that short rugged look to an afro. after getting bored with the afro I’m now having braids
This was a Sunday, me and the fam had gone for some Nyama Choma in Kitengela So this is what I wore.
The pink top I bought it cause it reminded me of this blog Cheekily Chic…..doesn’t it look like the background?
This heart bracelet I got from Michelle who owns the page Mellow on Facebook
The bag? Stole it from my mom…why, you ask? Cause its Victoria’s Secret shhhh….
Well, one thing I know is that I’ve not been posting here as actively as I should. But my week was a long one……*sigh*
Exams, CATs, projects, reading and more reading and obviously my baby* Cheekily Chic
So here’s my week in pictures;
I bet you wanna know what the first picture is about, right? Well I’m working on this project Africa in Me whose aim is to change the perspective of people about Africa, therefore we’ll be hosting about 15-20 interns in Kenya and they’ll get to experience Africa in a whole new way. They’ll get to travel around Kenya, experience different cultures and participate in many activities which we’ve lined up for them. Visit http://www.africainme.orghere for the basic information but for this specific trip to Kenya visit my other blog here and stay tuned for updates.
This didn’t really happen this week but last week but I felt like putting the picture here anyway. I donated blood last Thursday. All I have to say is that it’s an amazing experience.
On Saturday I was with a couple of my friends and we happen to meet my dear friend Sponge bob
Here was Saturday evening, we were heading to surprise my cousin for her belated birthday since she was out of town during her birthday…..and below we ordered Pizza
So last Sunday we had a barbecue in the afternoon and we relaxed. Yes, lately the weekends have been sunny unlike the weekdays. We weren’t able to go to church that Sunday cause we had visitors. So I decided to wear shorts with a military jacket and a bow tie
As for the belt, I kinda made it myself using a scarf and an old Maasai watch case.
The bow tie was just an addition cause my neck looked so bare.
Did I mention that I made this belt myself?
African Craze
The shorts – Kenyatta Market Ksh 350
The Military jacket – Adams Ksh 100
The dress top – Mr. Price don’t remember how much.
Good news: My Internet is up and running therefore I can Post and publish my posts from home and not school…..Anyway, I attended the Loreto Msongari Variety show since I wasn’t able to do such when I was in high school. The students there are soo Fashion Forward but I took pictures of those I was able to:
I know, I know its been a while but you know how the internet can mess you up sometimes. Soooooo a few Fridays ago was my brother’s graduation. So me and the fam all went to support him as he graduated.
So this is what I wore:
Me and this bag have history. When i first saw it i fell in love…really so i go ask the guy how much it was….And the guy says 900. I was like what, no way I’m buying a second-hand bag at that price. I’d rather go to Mr. Price and get a similar bag and add about 200/300 Shs. So after a few weeks i see the bag again but now itb was a different guy..so i went and asked the price, we negotiated and i got it yay!
When my dad offers to buy us clothes from places like Woolworths e.t.c I opt to buy shoes instead cuz i believe clothes you can buy anywhere but as for shoes they’re expensive everywhere you go. So I buy shoes…..
I always end up posting this bit on any day but Friday……..but anyway as long as I post it, Right?? been busy with school…..will even be busier come next week….
So this is what I wore when I went for rugby a couple of weekends back.
I meant to post this on Saturday but you know,,internet problems…. *sigh* so here’s what I was meant to post:
Cheekily Chic turns 1 month old today!! Yes, it’s been a month . So a month after 14 posts there’s been 3,007 views,39 comments and 45 post likes. I’m happy how things are turning out although sometimes I get frustrated ‘cuz people don’t comment but the views are going crazy…
Very happy indeed so keep reading lovelies….. I welcome it all encouragement and correction where suitable…….
So here’s what I wore today…….. I really want to bring back the denim jacket back to my look so I wore denim!!
Born in Somalia, was circumcised when she was 3 years old and ran away from home when she was 13 years old. I’m talking about Waris Dirie.
So who is Waris Dirie? She is the African beauty who made a difference! Apart from that? Okay here’s a summary of her story!
She was born in Somalia to a community of Nomads. She ran away from home when she was 13 because she was to be married off the next day to an old man and that would make her his 4th wife. She ran away to Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. The journey to Mogadishu was a tough one as she walked barefoot and almost got raped.
She stayed with her grandmother before she was shipped off to London to be a maid. After working as a maid for 6 years she then worked at White Castle where she cleaned the floors. At the time she was working here, she was discovered by photographer Terrance Donovan. From there her modelling career kicked off. She appeared in magazines such as Glamour, Elle and Vogue.
Waiting for the part where she made a difference? Hold your horses!
The press was interested in her story terming her story as ‘From Nomad to model’. One day during an interview, she was asked to tell of the day that changed her life; here the journalist wanted to know how she was discovered. Instead Waris told her a different story.
“One night when I was 3 years old, I was given an extra plate of rice, I didn’t know why. The next day my mother took me away from the house where another old woman was waiting for me. The lady made me sit down. She then removed a razor blade and opened my legs apart. I struggled but it was to no avail as my mother also helped keeping my legs apart. I felt the most excruciating pain. She then used a thorn to sew me up leaving a hole as small as a matchstick head. My womb got infected but I was lucky to be alive. I later went back to the same spot to look for my remains but the birds had eaten them. My mother said I was a woman now, I hated being a woman”
“One was to remain like that until the wedding night where your husband would cut you open with a knife or sharp object and force himself inside.”
She raised concern on the issue of FGM all over the world. She made a difference. And because of her many young girls have escaped “being a woman”.
In 1997, Waris abandoned her modeling career to focus on her work against female circumcision. That same year, she was appointed UN Special Ambassador for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation. In 2002, she founded the Desert Flower Foundation in Vienna, Austria, an organization aimed at raising awareness regarding the dangers surrounding FGM.
In 1998, Waris authored her first book, Desert Flower, an autobiography which went on to become an international bestseller.
This is only but a summary of her story. To know the full story, You can watch her movie Desert Flower.
Waris and Liya who played her in The Desert Flower
Yeah, I’m that girl with a turban…….This is the first time I’m wearing a turban…no…scratch that this was the first time I’m wearing a turban outside the house….not too shabby,ay?
I wore harem pants, a checked shirt, a ribbon and a pair of heels. I actually wanted to wear the shirt with a bow tie but I opted for the ribbon so that I can add some femininity to the outfit…… I also wore the heels to add some femininity to the whole outfit…
My cat joined the photo session
That ass *whistle*
This is my favourite pair of sunglasses…….n oh yeah, that’s the cat up close and candid.

……..IT’S KENDRA BABEEY!!!!
That’s all for today….. Feel free to stalk me by reading other posts and pages…..
So this Saturday I had the opportunity to interview my dear friend Nicole. We met up at The Junction Shopping Mall. Well she owns Kendra Clothing Line. So this is what I got from the interview:
Why the name Kendra? Well it has a Celtic (old English) meaning which is ‘Champion’ and ‘Bold‘
Kendra, bold enough to climb a tree
How did this start? Well my friends liked my clothes and they’d borrow me. I didn’t mind at first but it became too much so I started renting them out for as low as Ksh. 50 and I formed Kendra Clothing Line……
Then? The day she cleared High School on November 5th 2011, Kendra Fashion House was born…
What’s your personal style? Its dynamic! It changes depending with the environment.
What was the name of your most recent collection? BOLD!
The poster for the bold event
Why Bold? that’s because I realised I mostly stick to dark colours like black so I wanted to bring something with colour, something BOLD!
Well, She was also on The Big Breakfast on KISS100 with Caroline Mutoko and Jalang’o where she talked about Kendra fashion House and her Fashion Show for the BOLD collection.
Caroline Mutoko and Jalang’o of Kiss100
The BOLD Fashion show also released Mens designer watch known as ‘Wakati’
Wakati
A Wakati watch
She worked as a stylist for Healthy Woman Magazine for some time.
Random fact: She sows. She sowed one of the skirts for the Bold Collection.
What about the Kendra Models? They’re about 10. Kendra describes them as Smart, Beautiful, Respectable Ladies. (They passed the interview out of all that were interviewed)
Some of the Kendra Models at the BOLD Fashion Show

Future Plans?
She wants to have a TV Show
She wants to open her own store
Start a jewellery Collection
More Clothing lines
She wants to be a judge on Nokia Face of Africa
Lastly one thing she is truly proud of is the fact that everything from her collection is from Kenya. The material and the seamstress. She wants to see Kenya transform to be independent, be able to produce more things written “MADE IN KENYA”
Proudly Kenyan
Watch out for the BOLD collection that will be up soon,
This is the fourth collection of Kenyan-based designer, Wambui Mukenyi after her other collection which was The Janet Collection which she collaborated with Janet Mbugua.
This Renaissance collection, french word meaning “birth”, is just to die for
To get these pieces at an affordable price, click here to go to her website.
So Big Brother Fashion or rather BBF……I’ll just basically be featuring people whose style I happened to like…..
So the first BBF will be of Sasai(don’t you just love that Maasai name??)
So she wore a black and gold shirt, a brown coat with a leopard print lining…….really chic I might say.
The gold and black shirt with ruffles……..
The watch….it adds a pop of colour, don’t you think? And the silly bands?? For those who dunno, silly bands are hand bands which when put on a flat surface, forms the frame of an animal.
She also used a necklace as a bracelet….
The button earings?? Love ‘em
The bag has a really cool pattern……
So that’s it for this series of BBF……..
P.S if I meet you on the streets of Nairobi and ask to take your picture, please don’t freak out…..
For those who don’t know, Harem pants are also called Aladdin pants, genie pants or diaper pants(the diaper part, I really dunno why, im guessing its coz its baggy around the butt). It originated from India…..and from what I hear it’s really a cross between skinny jeans and a skirt……..yes! Really…
So you wanna try out the harem?? well:
1. DO tuck in…. why? To balance out the bagginess at the waist and the fullness at the legs
2.DO do crop(the two ‘do’s’ are not a repeat)….wear with cropped pants or jackets…its makes the pants stand out.
3. DON’T Over accesorize…remember attention to the pants.
4. People always say wear harem pants with heels to balance out your silhouette and to make your legs look longer…. but don’t always opt for a pair of heels..gladiotors can do all the same
5. DON’T be afraid to mix colours, You can never go wrong colour blocking…
6. Lastly, you can always create your own style….don’t be afraid to stand out and of course COMFORT is key
Yeah! Clearly its not a Friday…..was meant to post this last Friday but my internet was down……errm this is officially my first post…..#whoop whoop…..so for today im gonna show you a certain D.I.Y I did…..it was really random…..
This was a top I was given by a friend but iv never worn it so I was going through my closet and I thought hey!lemme see what I can do with it .
So I took the hanging piece and shoved it inside but not so much so it can look ruffled…
I then tied one of the straps with a ribbon as you can see…
I then paired it with a high waist skirt…
And added the belt…..the final look?? *drumrolls*
VOILA!!!!
As for the accessories…
This is a bracelet with leaf and bead detail, I got it made for me by a certain lady, Michelle Njuguna who owns the page Mellow on facebooķ. I got it For only Ksh 300.
This are actually 3 different types of necklaces….iv used them as bracelets.. You can find them at The Hilton…one of the corner shops, its an African shop, you can get it for only Ksh 30.
